Fair Housing Policy

Furnished.LA is an Equal Housing Opportunity provider. We are committed to complying with all federal, state, and local fair housing laws. We do not discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, source of income, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Our Commitment

At Furnished.LA, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality housing. We are committed to providing equal housing opportunities to all individuals and families, and we conduct our business in full compliance with the Fair Housing Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), and all applicable local fair housing ordinances, including the City of Los Angeles Fair Housing policies.

This commitment extends to every aspect of our business, from marketing and advertising to application processing, unit assignments, lease terms, maintenance, and all interactions with current and prospective residents.

Federal Fair Housing Act

The Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on:

  • Race or color
  • Religion
  • National origin
  • Sex (including sexual harassment)
  • Familial status (families with children under 18, pregnant women, or individuals securing custody of children)
  • Disability (physical or mental)

California Fair Housing Protections

California law provides additional protections beyond federal law. The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (Government Code Section 12955) prohibits housing discrimination based on all federally protected classes, plus:

  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity and gender expression
  • Marital status
  • Source of income (including housing vouchers and government assistance)
  • Genetic information
  • Primary language
  • Immigration status
  • Citizenship
  • Military or veteran status

City of Los Angeles Protections

The Los Angeles Municipal Code provides further fair housing protections, including protections based on age, ancestry, and other characteristics. We comply with all City of Los Angeles housing regulations, including the Rent Stabilization Ordinance and Tenant Protection Ordinance where applicable.

Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications

In accordance with the Fair Housing Act and California law, Furnished.LA will make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services when necessary to afford a person with a disability equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling. We will also allow reasonable modifications to the premises at the tenant's expense where necessary.

Assistance Animals

Furnished.LA recognizes the rights of individuals with disabilities to have assistance animals (service animals and emotional support animals) in their housing, even in properties with a no-pets policy. We do not charge pet deposits or pet fees for verified assistance animals.

Application and Screening Process

Our tenant screening process applies consistent, non-discriminatory criteria to all applicants. We evaluate applications based on legitimate business factors including rental history, creditworthiness, income verification, and background checks, applied equally to all applicants regardless of any protected characteristic.
